Etxe Records Fall 2018 update features news from Magic Wands, Replicant Eyes, and Near Northeast!
Etxe Records is proud to release Los Angeles based dream-pop duo Magic Wands’ third album Abrakadabra this Friday July 13th, 2018 on classic black vinyl with digital download.
Abrakadabra is a new and exciting body of work that captures dream wave duo Magic Wands signature expertise at infusing sweet, catchy pop tracks with intricate and sophisticated layers of powerful, transcendental and mystical moods and textures.
Recorded at Voltiv Studios in LA and produced by Phil Galloni and the band themselves and mastered by Tim Young (The Smiths, My Bloody Valentine), new album Abrakadabra features 10 tracks with an extra track "Puzzle Of Love" for vinyl orders.
Together Christopher Goett (Blackout Transmission) and Greg Svitil (Teething Veils) have taken on the time honored tradition of moody post-punk and carved out a very unique version where noise, shoegaze, post-rock and punk are all expanded on with amazing results.
While the first half of the album is reminiscent of Unwound as a desert rock band and appears cut from a similar cloth to late period Fugazi or even Hoover, the second half is a slightly more straight forward affair with guitar fuzz and turbulent melodies that songwriters like Lou Barlow have made good use of. Really, though, there’s little use for comparison.
On March 1st, 2019, Blackout Transmission releases their first official digital single “Verdant Return” available in the Etxe Records webstore and Bandcamp. This single features a Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds cover “City of Refuge” as a free B-Side download. This rendition was released earlier this month as part of the The Blog That Celebrates Itself’s “Death Is Not The End: A Tribute to Nick Cave”. The band is working on more new music in their home of Los Angeles. We’ll keep you apprised of future music and shows.
Replicant Eyes is a dark wave/post-industrial/post-punk duo from Washington, D.C., which combines existential themes with a collage of brooding synth sounds and sinister guitars. Featuring Alejandro Castaño (The Red Fetish) on guitar/electronics, and Dan Gonzalez on vocals.
